what is astronomy club ghost story?

astronomy club ghost story is kept alive by a small group of music enthusiasts from west sonoma county, california. we've released about thirty recordings since forming in 2002.

astronomy club ghost story is a proponent of the d.i.y. ethic popularized during the punk era. our aim is to document one facet of the developing independent music scene in sonoma county. in an age of globalization and specialization, we've chosen to focus on our immediate community and prefer to take control our own affairs.

we do not claim to be the sole representatives of the sonoma county independent music scene. there are plenty of good bands in the area, many of which can be found through our links page.

no one is really "in" astronomy club ghost story, because that's not the point.

we hope to one day have an ACGS compoud on the sonoma coast where we will host shows and record bands. plans also include a four track lending library program, and hammocks everywhere for those in need.

how do bands end up on the label?

we keep our relationships with bands informal, based on friendship and trust. no one is "signed" to astronomy club ghost story. we work with bands when the label and the band have agreed that they would be a good match for each other.

why don't you release music from outside sonoma county?

we primarily release music from our area because this is where we live, work and have the most understanding. to expand would be to dilute our focus. we encourage creative people to take control of their local scenes and to look within themselves to create opportunities as others have encouraged us to do.*
